The predecessor of the school - National Kaohsiung University of Applied Sciences Kinmen Branch was established on July 1, 1986, and a two-year tourism business department was established to actively cultivate tourism professionals; The independent school was the second year of the National Kinmen Institute of Technology. The two-year tourism business department was restructured into the four-tech tourism management department. In 1997, the Island Leisure Resources Development Research Institute was established.
1997:Kinmen Branch Tourism Division Second Special Department was established
2000:Kinmen Branch Tourism Division added two-year technical program(night school) 
2003:The independent school was the National Kinmen Institute of Technology, and the two-year tourism business department was restructured into a four-year tourism management department.
2008:The establishment of the Island Recreational Resources Development Institute
2010:The department is unified into the Department of Tourism Management (Institute)
2011:National Kinmen Institute of Technology renamed National Kinmen University

Department features

•Teachers and students have industry work experience or hold professional certificates, and teachers and students are encouraged to engage in research and development, actively participate in academic activities and publish research results.
•Cultivate students' English and Japanese skills, encourage students to actively participate in verification tests, and guide students to participate in the National General Examination for Professional Skills-Team Leaders and Tour Guides Examinations, and jointly organize English and Japanese speech competitions with the school's extracurricular activities group and the Department of Applied Foreign Languages during the semester .
•To develop students' ability to utilize relevant information systems and technologies.
•Actively strive for public and private agencies to entrust tourism academic project research, and provide tourism development strategies for the industry.
•Strengthen exchanges and cooperation with tourism industry, officials and academia in the three places (Taiwan, Kinmen, the mainland) on both sides of the strait.

Employment guidelines and future development

•In order to enable students to understand their own interests and develop their expertise, to guide students in their employment needs after graduation, and to make career plans as soon as possible, experts and scholars are often invited to the department for discussions, providing students with a learning platform through multiple courses and fully understanding workplace knowledge.
•Implement the combination of curriculum and practice and apply what you have learned. In line with the admission of freshmen in each academic year, a one-day tour is organized for freshmen. The students of the department plan the itinerary, and operate the tasks of the group leader and tour guide to guide the freshmen and their relatives and friends to get to know Kinmen.
•Cultivate tourism talents with both theory and practice, and formulate a graduate internship system. Through the course of "Tourism and Leisure-related Industry Practical Internship", the course is guided by the teacher. Provide students with more diverse learning opportunities and gain practical experience.
•Arrange students to visit and exchange on the mainland of Taiwan and the other side of mainland China, so as to enhance students' international perspective.
•In the future, the department will provide relevant courses in line with the development and needs of the region, and assist the region in the development of tourism-specific industries in the role of training and counseling. Set up interpreter training classes, tour guide practice classes, recreational activity design, homestay management studies or hold related seminars. In addition to general education, we will also actively invest in returning education and cultivating secondary expertise.
•In this area: In the future, the employment opportunities for students of this department will cover government tourism-related agencies and units, aviation tourism, homestays, restaurants, leisure and catering services, national park exhibition halls and recreational areas, interpretive guides and other related private enterprises.
